Will Montgomery is a multifaceted young man.
He's been named one of the state's soccer players of the year and is also part of a state championship team.
He's also a musician and standout student.
“I like to compete and to be active on the field. I like the flow of the game, and just the physicality of it,” said Will.
“On the field he's become a vocal leader, especially this year when he's been a captain, and I think the other guys look up to him for leadership on and off the field,” said Kendal Bauman, Will's soccer coach.
This fall, Will was captain of the EMHS Division II State Championship team and named Player of the Year.
He is just as talented academically. He ranks 3rd in his class with a 4.17 GPA.
“My parents and my family definitely encourage me to become a better student. My competitive nature, compels me to get and better grades, and not settle for mediocrity in my academics,” said Will.
“I enjoy teaching Will. I enjoy watching him play athletics. And its just fun watching a determined and disciplined young man perform academically and excel athletically,” said Elwood Yoder, Will's teacher.
As for the future, he wants to focus on a career in medicine.
“I've always wanted to go to the University of Virginia, its where all my family has gone. I'd like to go into their pre-med program there and major in biology and then hopefully, become a surgeon later in life,” said Will.
Eastern Mennonite High School's Will Montgomery is WHSV's Student Athlete of the Week for his talent on the field and dedication in the classroom.
