Stonewall Jackson's Heather Stout is just one of those superb athletes.

She averaged a double-double this past season for the basketball team, with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

"Her leadership this year for our team was just amazing because we were so young," said head girls basketball coach Jeff Burner. "She did a great job providing a great role model for our players. She's probably a better volleyball player than she is a basketball player, and that's really scary because she's a very good basketball player."

Stout is known for her hitting on the volleyball court. She shattered the school record for kills, and currently ranks 10th all-time in the state with 893.

"It just comes easy to me, and I've really learned over the season how to read the block and just know where to place the ball," said Stout.

"As far as her strengths, obviously her hitting is great," added volleyball coach and Heather's mother Sophie Stout. She's a really good server, passing; she's just an all-around player."

Stout was also one of only three Single-A players in the state to be selected to the Virginia All-Star game, which will be held in July at Christopher Newport University.

"I'm really excited to go over there," said Stout. "It's a two-day thing. You workout one day, and the next day you just play all day. I'm just really looking forward to that."

Stout also has time to be Stonewall's student council president. She volunteers; she's a member of the National Honor Society, all while maintaining a 3.5 GPA.

"She's in clubs galore, and she's a tremendous leader," said teacher David Sherwood. "She works well with other students. She'll be a good teacher."
