When it comes to competition Katie Coffey blows past pretty much everybody and that's just the way she likes it.
“I just like being in control, I like being a leader. I don't like to follow people, I like to do things by myself,” said Katie.
“With Katie, she's her worst critic. When she makes a mistake, she's going to get on herself, and she's just that way, she's always been that way. When you look up gamer in the dictionary, you'll see Katie Coffey's picture, because when the jump ball goes up, she's on, she's ready to play,” said her coach Tim Morris.
And when she hits the books? Katie's the same way, pushing for the top prize, the top grade.
“No one really pressures me to get good grades, it's kind of just on myself so if I got a B or something, my parents wouldn't be harsh on me or anything, but it makes me want to work harder the next time,” said Katie.
Katie's 3.9 GPA is good for tenth in her class.
All this while starting and excelling in three different sports.
“She wants to do well, she's always looking for ways to make herself a better student, and looks for those opportunities to push herself. She just gets it,” said Athletic Director Matt Stevens.
Riverheads High School Katie Coffey is WHSV Student Athlete of the Week for her athletics and her academics.
