EDINBURG, VA. (WHSV) -- A month ago, Sydney Plum helped pitch a no-hitter for Central High School. With 37 pitches, our Athlete of the Week struck out eight of the nine batters she faced. It's just one example of the senior's success.
Sydney is the ultimate teammate. She's unselfish but also unafraid to step up for the Falcons in the big moments.
"Her confidence in herself, and the team's confidence in her are what give me that peace of mind when she steps up to the plate," Central softball coach Lisa Rhodes said.
But Sydney knows that softball isn't all about the pitcher.
“It's about winning, and at the end of the day, people just care that Central won, not that Sydney started the game," Sydney said.
Sydney also chose to come off the bench to benefit the Central girls basketball team, which made it to the state final four this season. And she brings that same attitude into the classroom.
The Falcons senior ranks in the top 20 in her class and always willing to help fellow students.
"She sets a really good example,” Animal Science teacher Sherry Heishman said. “She's always trying to do the right thing. Bringing other people, getting other people involved, and trying to be a team in the classroom as well as in the field."
Next year...Sydney will attend James Madison University where she plans to study nursing.
