WOODSTOCK, Va. (WHSV) -- Zach Herbaugh is part of what could be the best team in Central High School History.

"It's been awesome. I mean everybody's excited. We've got the school behind us, the community's behind us. Everyone's just excited to see what we're going to do," said Herbaugh.

This team's success can at least, in part, be traced back to Herbaugh's hard work as a leader on and off the field.

"He's a kid we can depend on. He works hard in the weight room. He works hard in practice. He's here every day, and when the lights come on on Friday night, you can count on him to do his job," said Central football coach Mike Yew.

Zach's going above and beyond the call of duty.

He's been selected as first team All-District and second team All-State in football, not to mention playing basketball and baseball for the Falcons as well, all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.

"Well I can always count on Zach to give me an answer, and it will probably be correct. Sometimes you don't always get that, but he's not afraid to join in the discussion," said Donn Foltz, Zach's sociology teacher.

"Academics come first, that's part of being a student-athlete. You've got to concentrate and get the best education that you can because without an education, nothing is possible," said Herbaugh.

Zach is hoping to continue his athletic and academic career at the next level, but for now, the Falcons are happy to have him.

"Well I think it's a very big plus for Central High School to have such a gentleman and a scholar. That's what we need more of in our country I think. Zach does a good job of portraying the quality student-athlete," said Foltz.
