Moorefield High School's Zack Laughlin has helped lead the Yellow Jackets to the playoffs this year.
He says there are two things that he loves about playing football: playing under the lights and doing it for his high school team.
“Friday night lights man, I love it. I'd rather rather play Friday night lights than any other place. And I wouldn't want to play for any other team than Moorefield. It's the best team ever,” said Zack.
Moorefield is the best that they have been in several years. His coach says a lot of that is thanks to Zack.
“He's actually got more touchdowns than anybody on the team, he's leading the team in tackles, he's obviously leading the team in interceptions. He's leading the team in receptions, he's leading the team in this, he's leading the team in that, that's just Zack. It's the Zack Laughlin show,” said coach Josh See.
Zack also has just as much success in the classroom. He has a 3.6 GPA and is ranked 13th in his class.
He says it hasn't been easy to achieve his grades and performance on the field.
“I mean you've got to put a lot in and dedication in to it, I don't know, I guess it just comes to me,” said Zack.
“Zack always stands out because he's always got something to say, has his hand up ready to participate and always knows the correct answer,” said Spanish teacher Lauren Moyers.
As for the future, getting a good education is his number one priority.
“I do want to play football if I get the opportunity, but the basic thing is to go to college and get a good education. I want to try to get a good education in engineering, I mean it's a lot of hard work I've heard, but it's good money,” said Zack.
Zack's success on the field and in the classroom is why he is WHSV's Student Athlete of the Week.
