John Rodgers joined the WHSV news team in January 2012.

John has been interested in broadcasting since the age of seven. He used his parents' home video camera to make newscasts as he grew up. Eventually, he became the editor-in-chief of his high school newspaper.

John went on to major in broadcast journalism at Kent State University in Ohio. He spent much of his time working as an anchor and reporter at Kent State?s student-run television station, TV-2, working his way up to assistant news director. John also served as an anchor and reporter for NewsOhio, a weekly program for middle and high school students on public television stations WNEO and WEAO in Akron and Youngstown. While at Kent State, he gained even more experience through an internship at WYTV in Youngstown.

After graduation, John continued his career as a reporter at WBOY in Clarksburg, W.Va., where he also served as a back-up weather forecaster, anchor and producer. Many of his stories also appeared on a network of three other stations in Huntington, Beckley and Wheeling, W.Va. Most recently, he worked for WHSV's sister stations, WCAV, WVAW and WAHU in Charlottesville, as managing editor and an anchor and producer. While in Charlottesville, John helped launch several new newscasts and covered a range of stories from presidential visits to the 2011 Louisa County earthquake. He was part of the news team honored by the Virginia Association of Broadcasters for having the most outstanding newscast in Virginia.

Outside the station, he enjoys traveling with his wife and working with computer graphics and video.
