Val Thompson joined the WHSV News Team in January 2007, after graduating from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL. Val grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, and got his first journalism experience as a sports writer for the Northwest Herald newspaper.

While in college, Val interned at CBS 2 Chicago and also worked as a writer and editor for the WGN Morning News and News at Noon.

When he's not at work, Val loves spending time with his wife, daughter and small dog. Some of their favorite things to do include visiting Virginia's historical sites, going for walks in the park, shopping at the Farmers' Market, and watching movies.
