Moorefield's Trevor Markwod picked off opposing quarterbacks 14 times in the last two years.

"Just being back there and being able to read the play better helps," said Markwood. "It was pretty big."

That helped him earn All-PVC honors, and he was named All-State at defensive back last season.

And Markwood also plays basketball. He currently leads the Yellow Jackets in assists.

"I can shoot some, but I usually don't if someone else is open," said Markwood. "I insist on passing the ball."

"The most points he gets usually are in the paint," added head basketball coach Nick Watts. "For a little guy, you would think it's just completely opposite, but that's not his main goal. He likes to give it up."

Markwood also likes giving his time to other people. He says right now he has plans of studying physical therapy in college.

"I always thought it was cool when I was younger, and one of my friends went into it and said he really liked it," said Markwood. "I like helping people exercise."

"He's well respected by his peers and other teachers and held in high regard by his teachers," said teacher Joe Sherman. "He's a very good writer and does a lot of other good things as far as a student goes."
