A former sergeant with the Chesapeake Sheriff's Office has been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison for robbing the same bank branch three times.

John Michael Keane II of Suffolk had blamed a mounting pile of bills for robbing a BB&T branch of a total of $10,548 from July 2009 to February.

The 33-year-old Keane was sentenced Monday in Chesapeake Circuit Court. He was fired the day after his arrest. He had been with the department since 1998.
