A nonprofit organization that preserves historic sites has released a list of the most endangered historic sites in Virginia.

The sites include Loudoun County's Arcola School, built in 1939; the World War II-era Lee Shopping Center in Arlington County; Mill Mountain in Roanoke; James City County's Jolly Pond Dam, which dates to the American Revolution; rural places statewide and archaeological resources in developing areas.

Also on the list are Elliston in Montgomery County, due to a proposed facility for transferring freight between trucks and rail; and Southside Virginia, including Surry, Southampton, Sussex, and Prince George counties, for a proposed Navy jet landing field.

APVA Preservation Virginia released the list Tuesday at Historic Jamestowne, site of America's first permanent English settlement.
