Amtrak is considering launching daily passenger-rail service linking Culpeper and Washington by 2010.

Town Councilman Chris Snider says he and Mayor Pranas Rimeikis began discussing the possibility of extended rail service with Amtrak last year. Now he says they've learned a daily morning train that originates in Lynchburg and stops in Culpeper on its way to Washington is a possibility.

Council members unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday supporting the rail service. No word on what the next step is.

Amtrak already makes daily commuter trips along the central and northern Virginia corridor, including stops in Virginia Beach, Richmond and Fredericksburg.
