City officials say the free trolley along Alexandria's King Street drew more than 41,000 riders in its first month.
The service started April 1. The trolleys run down a 17-block stretch of historic Old Town from the King Street Metro station to the waterfront.
City Council Member Ludwig Gaines says the trolley is popular and is proving to be a good investment for the city. The city will spend about $1 million to operate it per year.
Deputy City Manager Mark Jinks says most businesses on the route support the trolley system.
