The average Virginia family will spend $246 more for gasoline this summer as the cost of fuel continues to break records.

According to AAA, the average price for a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Virginia reached a record $3.89 Friday. It's the 50th record high price in Virginia since the beginning of the year.

Based on Friday's price and the average 20 miles per gallon, AAA says the average family will spend $1,112 for gasoline during June, July and August. Last year, based on the May 30 price, the average family spent $866 during the three-month period.
