Fairfax County is bracing for possible education spending cuts next year.

The county School Board and the Board of Supervisors are considering a joint resolution to require an exhaustive examination of every department and service, educational or otherwise, to identify potential savings. The county is facing a projected shortfall of $350 million for the fiscal year that begins next July.

Board of Supervisors Chairman Gerald Connolly says the school system must share the burden with other parts of the government.

The last time the region's biggest school system received a decrease in county funding was in 1993.
