Authorities closed a portion of U.S. 220 in Roanoke County after a truck carrying explosives overturned and spilled acetic acid.

Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department spokeswoman Jennifer Conley Sexton says there is no danger to the public.

The northbound and southbound lanes closed between Yellow Mountain and Indian Grave roads.

Traffic was backed up for at least half a mile after the accident occurred shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday. The Virginia Department of Transportation says traffic was being routed to nearby roads.

Cleanup crews responded to the scene. No serious injuries were reported and no charges have been filed.
