Stuarts Draft High School will unveil a new program this fall that's designed to give students practical skills for the local job market.

The high school's new Center for Manufacturing, Engineering and Technology will offer a series of courses to students interested in manufacturing and engineering.

Juniors and seniors who complete the courses could earn as many as nine credits toward an associates degree at Blue Ridge Community College.

Augusta County schools' curriculum supervisor Jenny Groh says the idea is to offer coursework that could lead to career paths for students with a variety of ambitions.

Groh says if the program is successful, the school division likely will open it up to interested students from across the county next year.
