A six-year-old New Jersey boy drowned in a Williamsburg hotel pool while vacationing with his family.

James City County police and fire officials say the boy was pulled from the pool at Powhatan Plantation by a bystander around 9:25 p.m. Wednesday. Police did not identify the boy.

The boy was taken to Williamsburg Sentara Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Police are investigating the drowning.
