One-hundred puppies rescued from a West Virginia kennel are heading for a holiday weekend in Virginia Beach.
Members of the Virginia Beach SPCA are due back in the resort city Friday after a caravan to Whispering Oaks Kennel in Parkersburg, West Virginia to pick up the pups.
According to the Humane Society of the United States, more than 900 dogs at Whispering Oaks were housed in small cages and many had no access to water.
The Humane Society described the kennel as a "grossly overrun breeding facility wrought with obvious animal neglect."
The society has custody of the dogs and is attempting to find agencies that will care for the animals and place them in caring homes. The dogs include dachshunds, poodles and Yorkshire terriers.
