A cat that scratched and bit a suburban Richmond woman has tested positive for rabies.

The 46-year-old woman was removing groceries from her vehicle on Monday when Henrico County police say the cat pounced at her from beneath a bush, leaving a mark on her leg.

Henrico police trapped the animal, which died Tuesday at a shelter. A state laboratory confirmed Thursday that the cat tested positive for rabies.
