A sailor on board the Norfolk-based carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower died after a plane struck him during a weekend training exercise.

Navy spokeswoman Lt. Courtney Hillson says the incident happened at 8:16 p.m. on Saturday while the ship was on a training exercise off the coast of North Carolina. Navy officials are investigating.

Hillson says the Navy has not identified the sailor, pending notification of the family.
