Federal safety investigators are looking into an industrial accident in which a man was killed.

A spokesman for the city of Martinsville, Scott Coleman, says the accident occurred as the man was attempting to remove an air conditioning unit from a warehouse Friday morning.

Coleman says the load became unbalanced and shifted against the worker, who died at the scene. The man's identity has not been released.

Coleman says the man was working for a private subcontractor based in the Danville area.

Investigators with the federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration have been called in.
