Vermont lawmakers are contemplating intervening in a Wal-Mart project in Locust Grove, Virginia, near a Civil War battle site.

Howard Coffin, a Civil War historian, asked lawmakers Wednesday to pass a resolution urging the Orange County, Virginia Board of Supervisors to reconsider the proposed Wal-Mart planned for land outside the Wilderness Battlefield. He says it threatens the area near a monument that honors the 1st Vermont Brigade, which held the ground for the Union Army in 1864.

R. Mark Johnson, chairman of the Orange County Board of Supervisors, says the area is zoned for commercial use.

What kind of stakeholder is a Vermont lawmaker in the Virginia Walmart battle? This is just getting crazier with each passing week. Developers had better stop breaking wind, and go break some ground!
