History professors, archivists and researchers across Virginia are searching for photos, personal letters, yearbooks and other records of Virginia's "Massive Resistance" to school integration.
The Desegregation of Virginia Education project, also known as DOVE, identifies and preserves records of the state's desegregation process.
DOVE leaders are visiting historical societies and school board offices. They're also appealing to churches and people who have old photos, diaries and other records from that time.
Old Dominion University archivist Sonia Yaco says DOVE leaders are concerned that such records are being thrown out and they don't want this history to disappear.
