A Richmond day care worker has been convicted of involuntary manslaughter and child neglect in connection with the death of toddler who was left alone in a van.
Keishawn L. Whitfield is scheduled to be sentenced January 8 in Richmond Circuit Court. He was convicted of the charges Friday.
The 24-year-old Whitfield was the driver for the former Yellow Brick Road Daycare and Learning Center, which was operated by his mother, Valerot Whitlow. Whitlow faces a child neglect charge.
Police say 13-month-old Andrew Johnson died of heat exposure July 6 after being left in one of the day care's vans for at least four hours. Whitfield was driving the van.
The state revoked Yellow Brick's license after the child's death.
