A man has died after a standoff with Virginia Beach police.

Authorities say the man barricaded himself in a condominium after firing at officers shortly before noon Wednesday. The officers were responding to a call from neighbors who had heard a shot fired.

Police retreated and called for backup. At about 2:30 p.m., the Virginia Beach Police SWAT team re-entered the condo and found the man dead. It was unclear how the man died, and his identity was not immediately released.

Police spokesman Adam Bernstein said no officers were injured.
