SPOTSYLVANIA, Va. (AP) -- Two Spotsylvania County women face neglect charges after authorities removed eight children from a residence.
The sheriff's office says authorities went to the home Sunday after a 2-year-old girl was found wandering nude in a convenience store parking lot.
Authorities found rotten food in and around the kitchen and animal waste in many areas of the residence.
Thirty-eight-year-old Elizabeth Lam and 29-year-old Crystal Dawn Craig are each charged with felony child neglect. Police say Lam is the mother of five of the children and Craig is the mother of the other three. Each woman is being held in jail without bond.
The children range in age from 7 months to 16 years. They were turned over to their grandmothers.
Four dogs, three puppies and two kittens also were removed.
