The Virginia Department of Transportation will open some lanes in construction zones Tuesday, to make travel smoother for drivers this July 4 holiday week.
VDOT will open some lanes temporarily closed for construction or maintenance work from noon tomorrow until noon on Thursday, July 5.
Long-term construction zones with concrete barriers and orange barrels will stay in place.
State transportation officials remind drivers of Highway Safety Corridors, where motorists can end up paying much higher fines.
The zones are located on Interstate 81 in Salem and on Interstate 95 in Richmond and northern Virginia. Motorists who speed, tailgate or drive recklessly on sections of these interstates could be fined up to $2,500.
