Virginia Man Drowns

Authorities say a Virginia man drowned while swimming with friends in Garrett County, Maryland.

Police say 43-year-old Alvin Louis Garner, of Norfolk, Virginia, disappeared around 4:15 p.m. Saturday while swimming with three friends below Swallow Falls on the Youghiogheny River.

The Oakland Volunteer Fire Department, Southern Garrett Rescue Squad and divers from Deep Creek Fire Department responded to the scene.

Divers found Garner's body later. The body was sent to the Maryland Medical Examiner's Office in Baltimore.

Police say a preliminary investigation has ruled Garner's death as accidental with drowning the cause of death.
