The immigration protest is heating up in Montgomery County, where a group protesting Gaithersburg's Day Laborer Center is drawing upon the examples of Loudoun and Prince William counties.
Help Save Maryland is a group that advocates cutting benefits for illegal immigrants. The organization held a protest at the center to tell elected officials they should stop funding the center that the county set up.
Gaithersburg officials could not find a site that was not met with protests before opening one just outside the city limits in April.
Residents who came out to protest said they were upset their tax dollars go to illegals.
County Executive Isiah "Ike" Leggett supports the Day Laborer Center and says Montgomery County will not follow in the footsteps of Prince William and Loudoun counties, in Virginia. Those jurisdictions this month passed legislation against giving services to illegal immigrants.
A slightly larger group held a counter-protest across the street.
