The Army's plan to reduce the number of jobs moving to Fort Belvoir in Fairfax County doesn't change the fact that Arlington County is still the biggest loser.
The county, which is home to the Pentagon and other military offices, stands to lose 17,000 jobs in the base closing and realignment process. That's more than any other jurisdiction in the country.
Arlington officials fear the Crystal City area could become a ghost town once military jobs are shifted to areas such as Belvoir and Springfield.
The loss of jobs will also leave empty three million square feet of office space in the county.
