Two investigations have found that a Virginia National Guard general received pay from both the state and federal governments for working the same hours.
"The Virginian-Pilot" reported the findings Thursday.
Brig. Gen. Stephen Huxtable is both assistant adjutant general for the Virginia Army National Guard, and director of personnel and administration for the state Department of Military Affairs.
According to the newspaper, investigations by the state internal auditor and the Department of Military Affairs found five instances in 2008 and 2009 where Huxtable received duplicate pay.
Col. Daryl Francis, the Guard's deputy adjutant general, said in a response to the state audit that two state workers have been designated to handle military orders and state payroll submissions.
