BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- The last of five U.S. Senate debates between Democrat Tim Kaine and Republican George Allen finds both men pushing for a breakout moment Thursday night in a close race.

The debate at Virginia Tech begins at 7 p.m. It will be carried live on CSPAN and on Roanoke's NBC affiliate WSLS-TV.

Thursday's debate is likely to revisit issues and themes that have dominated previous ones. Allen will attack Kaine on what he calls the Democrats' "war on coal" and his claim Kaine supports defense cuts from sequestration.

Expect Kaine to retaliate by portraying Allen as an enemy of women's reproductive rights whose big-spendng record from a previous Senate term contradicts his support for reducing deficits through budget cuts only with no new revenues.
