PETERSBURG, Va. (AP) -- The Civil War Trust has launched its most ambitious battlefield application yet.
It's the Petersburg Battle App, and it covers the entire 10-month campaign. The nonprofit battlefield preservation group has rolled a series of free, GPS-enable smartphone apps, ranging from Antietam to Chancellorsville and more.
Once an app is downloaded, users can access battlefield maps, historic photos and videos from top historians. The trust says nearly 90,000 people have downloaded the battle apps.
The Petersburg Campaign saw more than 80,000 men killed, wounded, captured or missing. The app features 43 points of interest and individual tours.
