DOSWELL, Va. (AP) -- The State Fair of Virginia is amid its annual run under new owners on 331 rolling acres in Doswell.
The fair debuted Friday under the partnership of Universal Fairs of Tennessee and the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation.
While attendance numbers were not available on Tuesday, the Caroline County fair is banking on a big weekend to end the inaugural run.
The Farm Bureau and Universal say they have had to overcome uncertainty over the future of the fair and the short turn-around from the attraction's salvation from collapse under a mountain of debt.
As a result, some advertisers of the past were lost as well as some sponsors and exhibitors.
The fair runs through Oct. 7. Featured performers yet to play include Diamond Rio and the Kentucky Headhunters.
