U.Va., William & Mary Make Top 5 Best Value List

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) -- Two Virginia colleges are being recognized as some of the best values in public higher education.

The University of Virginia came in as the second-best value in rankings released Thursday by Kiplinger's Personal Finance. The Daily Progress reports U.Va. moved up one spot from last year.

The College of William and Mary came in fourth.

The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill topped the list, as it has since the rankings first started in 1998.

The ranking highlights four-year schools that judges determined have excellent education-to-cost ratio, as measured by factors including graduation rate, admission rate and student-faculty ratio.

James Madison University came in at 20th, Virginia Tech was 28th, the University of Mary Washington was 53rd, George Mason University was 56th and Christopher Newport University was 87th.
