NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- A coalition of voter advocates has filed a complaint against a group's training manual for Virginia poll watchers.
Poll watchers are political party designees and other observers authorized to be at a polling location to watch for problems as voters check in.
The Virginian-Pilot reports (http://bit.ly/SH430J ) that four organizations, including the left-leaning ProgressVA, claim a training manual by Texas-based True the Vote has misleading information about Virginia election law. The groups filed a written complaint with the State Board of Elections and other officials.
True the Vote president Catherine Engelbrecht dismissed the claims as trifles over layout and design and called the complaint an effort to keep citizens from exercising their rights as election observers.
True the Vote bills itself as nonpartisan but critics say it's a Tea Party offshoot.
