Va. Man Killed in Stolen Police Car Crash ID'ed

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- A man who died after he crashed a stolen Richmond police car into a building has been identified.

Police say 32-year-old Timothy R. Howerton of Richmond stole the car following a confrontation with an officer.

Police say Howerton pulled a gun after the officer approached him Monday afternoon. The officer took cover behind his car and Howerton jumped into the vehicle and fled. He drove the car threw a gate and then crashed into the side of a vacant warehouse. The car caught fire. Howerton died at the scene.

Police say Howerton was wanted but haven't provided details.

The officer wasn't injured.
