BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) -- Virginia Tech will hold its annual run and other events to mark the sixth anniversary of a mass shooting at the school that left 33 dead, but there will be no candlelight vigil this year.

April 16 marks the sixth anniversary of the shootings.

The university says student organizers elected not to hold a formal candlelight vigil, which had been one of the staples of the school's annual Day of Remembrance.

The commemoration begins at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday with the ceremonial candle lighting at the April 16 memorial, where the names of the victims will be read aloud. The Virginia Tech Corps of Cadets will stand watch for the first and final 32 minutes of the day.

The day also includes a community picnic and other tributes.
