Man Killed in Severe Weather Identified

Fairfax County police say a 57-year-old man was killed when a large tree crushed a sport utility vehicle amid violent weather in the mid-Atlantic region.

Police identified the victim Thursday as Huu Dai Pham, of Delaware. They say Pham was a passenger in the Toyota 4Runner when it was struck Wednesday. The driver was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

County fire department spokesman Lt. Raul Castillo says several motorists had to be rescued overnight after they drove into high water in low-lying residential areas. He says fire crews also responded to some outside fires that may have been started by downed wires.

MARC canceled service on its Brunswick line Thursday because of downed trees.

Downed power lines also caused outages throughout the area. On Thursday morning, electricity companies in the region report more than 250,000 customers without power.
