People in downtown Staunton were feeling the heat Friday. Many had to find creative ways to stay cool, either by picking up some ice cream or hitting a local pool.

With temperatures in the 90s, most people who were out and about Friday were carrying water to stay hydrated.

Many say these are the hottest temperatures they can remember in quite a while. So, it's important to stay cool and safe.

Joy Boardman says, "I drink a lot of water, because water is very good so you stay hydrated and try to stay inside."

With temperatures expected to rise this weekend, many people say they'll be laying low and staying indoors.
