The remnants of Tropical Storm Fay wandered into the Valley early Wednesday morning, giving a quick drink to some thirsty Augusta County farms. However, Fay's rain won't be enough help for the parched land.
The August County Board of Supervisors will meet Wednesday evening to discuss drought assistance for Augusta County farmers.
Jason Carter of the VA Cooperative Extension says, "The board of supervisors had a staff meeting Monday that Brian Jones and myself briefed the county on the drought status and they agreed to pass the consensus drought resolution to pass onto Richmond, in the event that the state declares a drought disaster that Augusta County as already made them aware that they need drought assistance."
Dwight Swope, part owner of Jennings Gap Dairy, says the rain will help the farmland, but they need inches of rain, not tenths.
He says, "It will here at our home farm, where we had the two inches a week or ten days ago. Yes that will help us some here. The surrounding farms where we was extremely dry. No, three and a half tenths isn't going to go very far."
Rain is expected to stick around through Thursday.
