Three years ago Friday, Hurricane Katrina made landfall near the Mississippi/Louisiana border. People from around the Valley participated in the Valley Responds by traveling down to Long Beach, Mississippi to help pick up the pieces.

As those along the Gulf Coast remember Katrina, they're now preparing for Tropical Storm Gustav, which is expected to reach hurricane status again before making landfall.

Long Beach Mayor Billy Skellie says they're already making preparations.

"We're filling up our facilities, you know, like your first response buildings, you know to make sure have, when we lose commercial power that we have the ability to keep an operation there", says Skellie.

While Gustav's track is not set in stone, he's expected to reach category three status before making landfall on the Gulf Coast sometime next week.
