The recent wet weather has provided a challenge for a local vineyard. Managers at Cross Keys Vineyards say they've been fortunate to avoid excessive heat this year, but recent rain has provided a struggle.

They've recently started a series of classes for people interested in learning more about wine making. The series includes information about wines in Virginia and how conditions, such as the weather, can effect the process.

"We had late rains. And so, the rains caused the berries to swell. It can dilute the juice. It can make the acidity jump. So, all that does is provide our wine-making team with a little challenge," says Mark Parsons, general manager at Cross Keys Vineyards.

Wine month begins Wednesday in Virginia. If you'd like more information about classes at Cross Keys, you can call them at (540) 234-0505. There's one class remaining in the current series. Parsons expects the next series to begin this winter.
