Nineteen counties in West Virginia are now in a moderate or severe drought.
The U.S. Drought Monitor released Thursday shows severe conditions in Lincoln, Logan, McDowell, Mercer, Mingo, Raleigh, Wayne and Wyoming counties. Eleven other counties are experiencing a moderate drought. The Eastern Panhandle is the only region not experiencing abnormally dry conditions.
Drought conditions spread to 46 counties last summer and fall, with severe conditions in at least nine counties.
