Summer time is known for bug bites, and mosquito control professionals are taking time to educate the public about the dangers of mosquitoes.

Certain areas around the Commonwealth are known for their wet conditions and high mosquito populations.

The Virginia Mosquito Control Association says it's important for people to know about mosquitoes and the diseases they carry.

The association hopes to minimize the mosquito population, especially after the wet weather we've seen lately.

"There's a lot of areas, especially with new development, you have retention ponds. Areas like that with rain we've had this year hold water. Those are perfect grounds for mosquito breeding," says Caleb Stitley from the Virginia Mosquito Control Association.

Some areas around Virginia actually have "mosquito control" groups. Stitley would like to bring one of these groups to the Valley to help with education and awareness.
