West Virginia forestry officials say summer rains haven't eliminated the risk of wildfires during the state's fall forest fire season.
Assistant State Forester Ben Webster said Tuesday that a few dry days can quickly escalate the danger of wildfires.
The season begins October 1 and continues through December 31.
All outdoor burning will be prohibited during the season from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. A safety strip of at least ten feet around burning materials is required and fires must be attended to until they are fully extinguished.
The state Division of Forestry says violators of the restrictions face a fine of up $300. If a fire escapes containment, the violator is liable for the cost of fighting it and any property damage.
