The Virginia Department of Transportation isn't taking any chances when it comes to unseasonably cold weather this weekend.

VDOT officials say they will have superintendents patrol the roads Saturday and Sunday because snow is in the forecast.

They have also been performing dry runs for the last few weeks, which allow crews to understand their routes and rehearse for the winter.

Despite recent budget cuts and the closings of residencies in Verona and Luray, VDOT officials say snow removal is still a top priority.

Sandy Myers from VDOT says, "Snow removal operations will not be any different this year than what they were last year, and the cuts we are making throughout the agency actually protect our investment in snow removal and allow us to continue the snow removal process just as we've done in the past."

Myers says the department hasn't yet received budget numbers for snow removal this year. However, she says they will pull money from other services if they have to.
