Dominion Virginia Power is practicing its response to a hurricane.
The utility staged a mock Category 2 hurricane this week that struck Elizabeth City, North Carolina and cut a path toward Richmond as a tropical storm.
The company serves 2.4 million customers in Virginia and northeastern North Carolina, including parts of the Outer Banks.
Employees practiced how they would coordinate restoring power to 804,000 customers from a command center in Norfolk. The company wrapped up its exercise Thursday.
Hurricane season ends November 30.
