Lightning has led to the cancellation of Virginia Tech's graduation ceremony.
The Roanoke Times is reporting that stormy weather prompted the cancellation of the outdoor ceremony Friday evening at Lane Stadium. There was no immediate word on whether the ceremony would be rescheduled.
Nearly 5,000 Virginia Tech undergraduate students are to receive their diplomas this spring.
Virginia Tech's graduation speaker was to be Kenneth Feinberg, a lawyer who's served as an administrator for funds to compensate those harmed in the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the Virginia Tech massacre in 2007 and last year's BP oil spill.
Feinberg distributed $8.5 million in private donations to the Hokie Spirit Memorial Fund to survivors of the mass shootings and to the families of the 32 people who were killed.
